honda crv sat nav dvd problem?

Please tin can anyone help me with my sat nav on my 2004 honda crv, it says dvd error and I have tried a friends dvd disk in in that location only it has the same trouble. I take tried going to the force download screen but zilch happens and on the diags screen it says everything is ok. Are at that place anymore reset procedures and likewise is the unit of measurement like shooting fish in a barrel to have out of dash to inspect. Thanks.

I met Andy well-nigh the M25 as I was from the West of Oxford. He not but fixed the Saturday Nav in my CR-V but also the enter button which was a bit wayward. Very reasonable accuse too. Well washed Andy

OK so I have done the butter knife lens make clean, the have it autonomously lens clean and attempted to do a forced download. It starts download procedure and and so afterward a few seconds says mistake reading disk once again. But it isn't the deejay as I tried another disk from a working navigation unit in another car. ANy ideas?

Tried the wipe and ruler trick over and over no joy. Then tried the downwardly zoom & carte du jour reboot. Got to the carte du jour messed most a little, cleared the sram, found the 'Force Download' button, striking it something downloaded, few minutes later unit working perfectly. If I wasn't in the car I would accept done a somersault. Second simply to a Euromillions win. Tin now exercise everything on the Satnav and stereo. Only bought the 2005 2.2 Exec every bit a banger for the dogs just have fallen in love with it. Skilful luck to y'all all.

Seriously people I can kiss you all only at present ha ha. Honda Jazz I have and was giving a dvd read error. Called upwardly Honda for a replacement disk when they about gave me a heart assail £179!!!! Wtf I thought. So thought purchase deejay caput cleaning kit. Didn't make a difference. Started thinking if it was a disk error. At the concluding moment, chanced upon this thread. Y'all rock stars with your butter pocketknife and wet wipes lol. Tried first time didn't work. 2nd time something happened. Later on a delay error appeared. That gave me confidence. Switched off the car and cleaned it once more gently. And the 3rd time...worked like magic. Honey you all the butter knifers due north the moisture wipers.

How-do-you-do tried all the suggestions on this page including dismantle and clean , strength download.
Still getting fault . Did notice in diagnostics I have no satellite signal ,crv is in open infinite.
on first diagnostic schematic all connections seem fine . Likewise checked connections ok.

Just done aforce downwardly load press the downwardly arrow on the zoom push button whilst holding in the bill of fare push button at the same fourth dimension keep pressing side by side until y'all become to the system s part then press on the different items until force download appears at the bottom printing it and everything will go blank so drive off after nearly 2 mins information technology started to load upwardly keep driving until it reboots. worked a care for

I used Andy's services for my 2004 Honda at the get-go of this week and he was excellent. Same trouble as nearly with DVD reading disc mistake. Tried new disc and tried rebooting system but neither worked.

Have merely fastened a wink kitchen wipe to a little ruler and waggled around (carefully) in the DVD slot. Put disc back in and it's now working for the first fourth dimension in two years! So put in the new disc (from eBay) not genuine Honda disc and it's updated it straight away.

Thanks for the solution, the bulletin on the screen was driving me mad!

Thanks to Bartley who described how to clear the SRAM (December 2011 beneath).
Disk loaded faster than before, all I need to do is test it!
If that fails I'll strip information technology downward and clean the lenses...

HI, I live in NZ and take a Japanese inport 2003 Honda Accord Euro. I replaced the battery and the nav needed a reboot. I tried inserting the Honda deejay and I got the cheque deejay error bulletin. I've taken it apart and attempted to clean the lens merely to no avail.

Andy, I approximate you are in the states but any risk you tin tell me what yous exercise to get this thing support and running? It besides controls the air con organization so information technology's really abrasive...

Yay!!!
After dismantling the DVD unit, giving the lens a wipe with a cotton bud and somewhen putting it all back together (no screws left over......BONUS) I tried it again. Didn't work. Just about to requite up and I read that you need to be away from buildings when starting the unit dorsum up. Did this, and hey presto information technology worked!!!!

I now have a fully functioning, up to date sat nav.

I own a 2006 CR-V 2 in the netherlands and equiped it with my 2004 Sat Nav (original Honda Tall) that I recovered from my first CR-V, a 2003 that went total loss on a tree... Black Ice with 35 km/h...

Information technology worked well for almost three years until it started with the disc error message when the wintertime started. I did the mentioned repair and cleaning as described hither!! Piece of cake complete opening and endmost. Appears that everything is ok merely the DVD won't spin up.

Tin can anyone tell me if at that place is a sensor that reads that the disk is loaded??

April 2012 - 2006 Honda with the same problem as everyone else 'DVD error'. Tried the 'butter knife' and 'wet wipes' approach. Removed a lot of dirt from the cd lens but to no avail. And so re-read the comments of others and persisted - advisedly! Then realised that the cd lens faces upward and therefore repeated the cleaning merely with a little more than downward pressure level - hey presto. Sorted. Did this a few months agone and been fine always since. My suggestion - persevere with cleaning only carefully. It probably took exist 4 or 5 attempts before it worked. The re-boot instructions offered past others were easy to follow and did the trick. Thanks to all who posted. I nigh took the automobile to a garage!

I have a similar issue. I take purchased a 2011 disc for my 05 CRV just for the 'disc mistake' bulletin to announced. I take tried the 'wet wipe and ruler' method still no joy. What confuses me though is that when I put the original disc in it works, so the laser cant be that muddied. I have tried the strength download, but the screen but goes black and eventually comes back on in the same land 'disc error'.
Am I doing something incorrect, or does it need a more thorough clean?

Try a DVD player head cleaner disc (the type with pocket-size brushes on). I had the same problem but it took quite a few uses of the cleaner to practice the pull a fast one on - the auto stops itself maxim in that location is no disc! So just repeat the cleaning and persevere.
(I carry the cleaning disc in the car in instance the trouble recurs).

I have a 2003 CRV. Aforementioned problem experienced when the DVD was removed - "DVD Disc Reading Error". On my automobile, if you lot press the menu button and zoom down push button at the same fourth dimension, the system diagnostic menue comes up. Afterwards some self checks, you volition come up wit a screen where one of the choice is "clear backup". If you chose this, a message will appear that this will articulate the SRAM (memory) and reset the organization. Press OK and information technology will ask you for the language - chose United kingdom English and hopefully it will then reset your system. I have washed this successfully one time.

Y'all are all stars!! I idea "what the hell" so cleaned the disc with lens cleaner and stuck a dettol wipe on a knife in the disc slot and jiggled it virtually.Lots of black yuck only it worked first time.Brilliant!!

cotton wool bud with some cleaner on it just push it gently into the cd slot remembering to remove the cd motion around it will feel quite tight the bud is long plenty to practice the job good luck

I was in serious danger of parting with £300 to have my satnav fixed....can't believe my luck that the "windowlene wipe and thin ruler method worked!!! Mine has been out of activity for 2 years!!
When I wiggled the ruler almost I accidently forced it over something..don't know what and thought that I had caused some damage. Also cleaned the DVD disc with the wipe.

I put the disc back in, waited for it to kick upward, the dreaded "mistake message" didn't come up.....and so I pressed "map" and information technology came up!!!!!!!!!! did a short road program..........all ok.

Didn't even accept to force the download. Tin can't believe my luck! But hope information technology continues.

Don't waste material your coin on the DVD cleaner disc...I bought 1 and it didn't piece of work....£15 wasted.

Please practice not insert a knife or any other object into the disc slot.. The lens within is VERY fragile and you lot could easily scissure it, then you will accept to replace the whole unit!!...
The unit needs stripping downwards professionally.

Same problem re sabbatum nav showing dvd error. Tried DVD cleaner and information technology did non work. Wrapped a glasses lense cleaner round a thin knife and inserted in DVD. Moved it effectually a bit and then took information technology out. Needed to press DVD squirt button to return sat nav DVD. The saturday nav fired up straightaway and is at present working as it should practise. Thanks to all for this tip.

Craigs solution worked for me too. No amount of DVD cleaning disks worked. One time I dismantled it and properly cleaned the lens it'southward working a treat. Thanks Craig, the process was made very easy following your caption.

Craig - y'all are a star. Followed your instructions on taking the unit autonomously, cleaned the laser head with a cotton fiber bud and all works well. Besides quick tip - plant my disc had quite a few small scratches (even though it had never been out of the slot). Used a small amount of toothpaste and lightly rubbed in with a cloth. Removed toothpaste, majority of scratches gone and disk / saturday nav start up in record time.

I had same trouble with 2005 Sabbatum NAV in my CRV exec . Just went to Currys boght a dvd cleaner disc and it works perfectly now . Try this before you spend any money !!!!

My '55 Honda CRV sat.nav problem "DVD reading an error" solved instantly by buying an Allsop Multimedia Laser Lens Cleaner from PC World for £xv.99. This is a DVD, CD and Game Consol lens cleaner. It took almost xx seconds to clean the lens, and over a calendar week on, have had no problems. This cleaning should exist repeated on a weekly ground.

Message Reading "DVD Error" This has happened to me twice now. The first time the unit of measurement got sent to alpine who fixed it for £350! Today I accept but followed some suggest in this forum Re "strength a download by pressing Zoom Down and Menu at the same time for a few seconds...the screens that appear, just go along selecting Adjacent".Somewhen the unit reboots and hey presto it works once again! Like many others here i ejected the DVD to check the version.

Later puting it dorsum in i got the dredded "Error Reading from Deejay" (it was working fine on the style home as i had just purchased the CRV.

Tried the lens cleaner for two Days (No Joy)
Tried a wipe wrapped around a ruler (No Joy)

Eventually bit the bullet and removed the unit following the directions in this forum from Craig and Pol101.

Cleaned out a fair bit of grime using a cotton wool bud soaked in windowline.

Polished the lens with a couple of clean dry fresh cotton buds.

Take reassembled and reinserted in to the nuance and powered it upwardly but i dont accept sat coverage here where i live, so it deceit practice the setup. So i dont know if its been fully sucesfull or non.

Very many thanks to all, especially Tim!! I at concluding managed to remove the trim, extricate the "box", stripped it downwards and and then spent an 60 minutes looking for the laser! Somewhen I located information technology, did the lens cleaner on cotton wool bud trick, re-assembled eveything and now all is well.

I had this problem and saw help on some other forum which has worked a treat!
Screen wipe sellotaped well to a flat thin ruler - poke it in the dvd slot and swish it around for while. Then put the disc back in (if information technology won't get in press the eject button again as the ruler may have fabricated it think it has a disc) once the disc is in, forcefulness a download by pressing Zoom Downwardly and Card at the same time for a few seconds...the screens that appear, simply keep selecting NEXT. Then switch it all off...hopefully and then when you switch information technology all back on, the lady is dorsum!! I am so thankful for this information information technology'due south saved a lot of hassle and a lot of money! good luck!

Greg's solution worked for me as well!! Although I didn't remove the pocket-size screws... I just moved the laser up to the corner [you lot'll see a gear bicycle/screw], by paw, and used a bay wipe on the terminate of a cotton wool bud, and just poked effectually!!!

OK... but how does one actually remove the SatNav unit of measurement please? I removed the two screws underneath the air vents merely cannot see how to get the trim off. I tried to lever it out - gently merely still damaged it - and pulled in every management but it won't move. Is there something I'm missing, please?

Just want to thank those who suggested the "butter pocketknife and baby wipe" option (or "bkbw" procedure) for the "error reading navigation dvd disc" problem on my CRV. Works fine now and managed to save expensive repair bill ! Thanks again

I had the same problem with "dvd disc is reading an fault" on my 2005 CR-V. I tried many things (DVD cleaners, service guy, another version of DVD map) simply nothing worked.
And i day, looking on the net for this, I saw Graig'southward post. And I said... why not! With a lot of patience, I followed the instructions exactly (it took like 3h) and at present it works perfectly. It was just dust on the lens inside the DVD Player.

Then, cheers Craig!!! And for the others with the aforementioned trouble... It WORKS!
...Craig, you lot have another beer from me if you come to Romania!

I tried a few things (read on as in that location is deep joy at the cease!);

1 - the dvd head cleaner didn't work, in fact it fabricated the problem worse as the unit of measurement came upwardly with the 'DVD disc fault' message constantly rather than (increasingly) intermittently!!!

2 - butter pocketknife with a lens cloth and compressed air can shoved in the unit yielded no results for me - however I don't retrieve I really knew where the caput was located and then information technology was touch and go. The caput on my unit was at the back correct equally discovered in 3!

3 - armed with a impress out of Craig'due south (December 2008) instructions a couple of spiral drivers I spent a expert hour going through the steps and IT WORKED! One thing to add together is to make sure yous eject the disc before y'all have the unit of measurement out, also don't expect to be able to follow the instructions exactly.

CRAIG - thanks, if y'all are e'er in Southward W London I'd like to buy you a Beer or two!

Can't thanks all enough. Been having 'DVD disc error' message for months, so it works, then non. Just tried wipe with plastic knife and seems perfect. A lot of dirt on wipe. Hope it'southward fixed.

i have had the sat nav displaying dvd error for over a twelvemonth tried new discs ,after reading this blog i went out to it wrapped a wet wipe around a butter pocketknife jiggled information technology most in the bulldoze & forced a download & hey presto its working ,thanks guys it really does work

My 2002 CRv satnav gave upwards the ghost. I bought a cheap dvd cleaning disdc from Tesco and it worked fine after that for 6 months. It then stopped working once more.

This afternoon I removed the unit, followed Craig's instructions in an earlier post (December 2008) , cleaned the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation with some glass cleaner on a miracle fabric, and it works fine again.

I did the baby wipe on a butter knife idea thinking hey what have I got to lose, and what do yous know information technology works. the odd occasion it takes a while to kick in, usually find if you start engine and dont movement for a while it picks up quicker than on the move. one time it has started offset thing in the day, no problems rest of the mean solar day. so hey get a knife babywipe and give information technology ago.

My sat nav was experiencing all the problems listed. I so bought a re-usable ii-way DVD lens cleaner from Comet cost £15 followed the instructions and cleaned the lens. I re-inserted the sabbatum nav disc and the unit of measurement rebooted up correctly first time and continues to work correctly and appears to be a lot faster.

Tin can someone please mail a link to Derek'southward Feb commodity as I cannot find it !

My Honda CRV SatNav unit of measurement was showing the dreaded "DVD Disc Is Reading An Error" bulletin so I dis-mantled the unit (equally per instructions on this page) and cleaned the laser caput with some lens cleaner and a cotton bud.

The DVD Error bulletin has at present disappeared and the radio works but the unit will not budge from the offset-upward rubber screen. Usually after nigh a minute, OK is displayed on the bottom left of the screen and, after pressing the Enter push, the current location map is displayed. However, OK is not at present displayed on my unit but there are no mistake messages stating NO DVD Disc in bulldoze or DVD Disc mistake. The DVD disc loads and ejects without a problem but it seems as though maybe the bulldoze is not turning.

Does anyone please have any ideas ?

I had the same problems on my 03 CRV. I followed Derek'south commodity (in Feb) and dismantled the unit. Its like shooting fish in a barrel so long as you're careful. The laser is located at i o'clock if you accept the lcd screen every bit 6 o'clock. The primal is that the laser cover is concave rather then convex. Therefore information technology collects clay and resists cleaning disks. I cleaned all interior with cotton buds and glass cleaner. It was amazing how much dirt was in in that location. Re-assembled and worked perfectly. Expert luck.

Mine has worked intermittently for months, with the periods of not working getting longer & longer. Finally stopped working altogether six weeks ago. I accept just wrapped a butter pocketknife with a baby wipe and stuck it into the DVD slot and moved it effectually. I wiped the DVD besides,just when I went to put the DVD back in the machine would non accept information technology so I pressed eject again & it made lots of whirring noises. When it finished it accustomed the disk & I am amazed to tell you all that it worked!!! I was nearly to buy a tom tom and then figured information technology did not thing if I damaged this beyond repair. I volition be amazed if information technology continues to work!

we have simply had our crv for just over a year when sat nav went on the glimmer with message disc error on screen. honda have quoted us £3500 for a new alpine sat nav (including fitting!!). I am pretty disgusted with this as I have driven Hondas for years and liked their reliability.

Had the same trouble with my 52 Reg . It started well-nigh half-dozen weeks ago with error reading disc message. I read all the reports on this site (wasn't dauntless plenty to endeavour some of them). Used a dvd cleaning disc several times and did a force download every day sometimes up to x times a day. No luck with this but I kept trying. Finally I rang Honda and bundled to go and take them take information technology out and transport it away for repair subsequently my holiday at a cost of £250.
This weekend we went on a mini cruise to Holland and as I had to bulldoze to Male monarch George Dock in Hull I borrowed a friends Tom Tom and put this on the nuance just above my own sat nav. Drove to Hull and left my machine on the elevation flooring of the auto park at the docks. It was there for 3 days. When I returned and started to set up the Tom Tom for my render journey I noticed that my Honda sat nav was at present working, set my domicile accost and it has worked ever since. Can't understand how but it has. Could it have anything to do with the Tom Tom passing whatsoever kind of indicate or any of the equipment around at the Dock. Don't know simply if it happens again I am of for a drive to Hull. (Expert excuse for another weekend away)

Finally got circular to looking at the same trouble on our 2005 CRV. Removed the unit, 2 screws upwardly under the air vents. Pull out trim then four bolts retaining the unit. Pull out unit of measurement and remove several plugs.

Remove mounting plates on sides of unit of measurement and large black box hanging on these and plugged into back of unit. Removed the rear cover (about ten, screws didn't count) then lifted elevation off. Removed the screen, four screws. Seperated DVD from CD (another four screws I recall). So I may have started removing unecessary parts and you may see a better way for the next steps. Took the excursion board off the acme of the DVD only this is held to the unit by ribbon cable that can't be detached. Then removed plate on back of DVD held with very small screws and springs. Did not detach springs just gently moved plate upwardly. Then past shining a tourch in the back I could see the laser through gaps in the acme of the unit (with previosly mentioned circuit lath held to one side). Once the laser was found information technology was uncomplicated to put some cleaner on a cotton fiber bud and reach it through the open dorsum of the unit.

Reassemble. Then wonder why you take ii screws left. Take autonomously again and and then realise you miss counted and they were the ones that held the acme on.

Whatever mode it works perfectly at present.

My 4 year old CRV was also showing this error bulletin. I tried cleaning disks which didn't work. I took it to my local dealer who removed the Sat Nav and sent back to Alpine for repair. I was quoted £250.00 to repair which is shocking for a car of this age. I phoned Honda customer services to mutter and they offered to foot the neb. If you have this problem try phoning Honda customer services.

i have but had my 2003 CRV sat nav back from the main dealers Fixed ! it as well showed DVD disc read fault
i tried the force re set but it did not work as the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation had given up the ghost, and then I chose to get it stock-still at Brindley Honda in Cannock
Be CAREFULL information technology toll me 200.00 + VAT total 235.00 and im NOT HAPPY ! the disc that came back with the unit was version 2.00 and i sent two.03 and the door/flap on the front does not open unless you press the open up button and pull on the volume knob to admission the cd actor IT'S GOING Dorsum AFTER 13 DAYS AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!

Mine went pear shaped too. Tried all the usual, dvd cleaners also. Nothing worked. Then when cleaning my spectacles with Boots Lens Cleaner, I thought why not? Nothing to loose. So I cleaned the dvd with the lens cleaner, then sprayed the cleaner onto the glasses material, got a plastic spoon and put it on the handle. Slowly and carefully, I placed it in the crv dvd discontinuity, wiggled it about back and forth, left and right several times. Another spray and repeated. So I put the dvd in and it loaded! I did a force download and it is at present back to normal, better than information technology was in the beginning place. Not sure how long information technology will concluding though - and I even so prefer my tomtom, but at least I have the proper display on my CRV now as it was, rather than that stupid bl**dy bulletin dvd fault which was really getting to me. Has to be worth a become if nothing else works. I call back the motto for this cr*ppy satnav system has to be Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati.

just fixed ours. dvd fault kept coming up. Went through the procedure of forcing the dvd to download again, holding menu and zoom button for 2 seconds and going through the sequence equally per instructions I found on another forum. Somewhen, a combination of reloading again and once more, opening and closing the front when error bulletin appeared and ejecting and reloading the disc did the trick. Has been fine for a while now and is working perfectly, although, I retrieve a garmin or tomtom far superior.

Persevere, preferable to paying £200 which is the price of a new dvd rom and it is non a software problem, I think it is something to do with the style the forepart of the system opens and closes considering dvd error came up fifty-fifty when the door was wide open up.

I've but got mine taken out and replaced it with a normal head unit and bought a TomTom, which is a 100% better than the Honda version!
Anyone want to by an Alpine SatNav fits virtually Honda CR-V'south!!!

In that location is a trouble with all Tall nav, and back up is poor, we accept also lost nav in aforementioned type honda crv, Honda say for a for a modest sum of £350.00 they can transport for repair.smashing when we simply paid £1500 for it to be put in, Oh the ability of dreams

I bought i of those disc,s from e-bay and I get that (mistake reading disc) only afterwards almost half hour and restart it works ok, this happens every fourth dimension ,,but if i put my original disc in information technology works ok first time as zippo wrong, so I recollect information technology is disc problem,. promise this helps. Hi Colin, I had the same trouble. In the stop my CRV went to the local dealer and had the Sabbatum Nav removed and DVD replaced which cost £175 although I take heard on other websites that you tin can actually become newer versions off Ebay for but £20.

this is probably a dirty laser im non certain how difficult it is to remove unit from vehicle but in one case out as long equally ur careful and very handy with a screwdriver u can clean the laser lense with a cotton wool bud and a propierty lens cleaner
